'06 Food for Thought

The Mission of Opel revisited for '06.

by Syd Gris

The new year hearkens one to take stock and look around, to evaluate what's behind and what's ahead, to assess and ponder. So it is. I started throwing parties as a passion and a purpose. There I was dancing the night away at many a Nikita and thinking about how to harness the incredible energy around me to do some good, to be of service, to mean more than just a great night out. That in and of itself was not enough, not for me. Never has been, still isn't. The first idea was to throw a party that would benefit the group home I worked for, a home for severely emotionally disturbed (i.e. damaged) San Francisco pissed off teenagers...

Ex-EPA Chiefs Blame Bush in Global Warming

WASHINGTON - Six former heads of the Environmental Protection Agency — five Republicans and one Democrat — accused the Bush administration Wednesday of neglecting global warming and other environmental problems.

"I don't think there's a commitment in this administration," said Bill Ruckelshaus, who was EPA's first administrator when the agency opened its doors in 1970 under President Nixon and headed it again under President Reagan in the 1980s.

Russell Train, who succeeded Ruckelshaus in the Nixon and Ford administrations, said slowing the growth of "greenhouse" gases isn't enough.

Special New Years Thanks

Opel NYE 2006 Weekend: A HUGE thanks!
On behalf of Opel, we just want to say thanks to all the awesome people we saw tearing up the dance floors and having a great time on Friday at Mighty and DNA on Saturday. As usual, we were spoiled with the best in cutting edge music and a constantly sweet vibe of friendly party people.

It was just how we wanted to end another amazing year, and to step into the new one with lots of positive momentum and the support of the community to bring more than just a party to our incredible music scene here.

Expect us in 2006 to keep the quality high, the quantity lower, and the mission intact: utilizing platforms of entertainment to raise consciousness and build community in the hopes of doing our small part to make the world a better place. We hope you continue to join us. When you support our parties you are supporting an effort to use business as a vehicle for good rather than simply commerce, and that needs to be the direction of the world if we are to turn this thing around...

As always, thanks to Mark of MV Gals and Gina from Opel for giving us lots of records of our great memories throughout the year.

Check the pics HERE!

See you on the dancefloor, may your love be greater than your fear.

~ Dr. Syd
