Infuse Recap

It's hard to summarize what the night was like.

Except maybe WOW, but that doesn't capture the scope, or the vibe. The goal of bringing people together from the many different tribes we share and creating some magic on the dance floor was actualized. It was a really, really special night, and we at Opel are in deep gratitude to you for Showing Up on Saturday and bringing it. Well done!

I was walking around upstairs when M3 was rocking it and I over heard someone say, "this is the best room." I walked downstairs where Laird had the room jumping and one of the DJ's who played earlier in there says, "this is the best room going off right now." I walked out on the deck, where you could literally feel the wood underneath your feet bouncing up and down with the dancers while Spesh was playing to a packed dance floor, and one of my friends tells me, "dude this room is going off right now!" I walk into the chill space and a throng of people are looking mesmerized at 2 gorgeous belly dancers undulating in front of them...

And so it was, until the sun rose to a still packed wooden deck, orange hues and smiles...

Meet Your Opel Residents

Opel has never been about one kind of music, but one kind of party. A party that places a high value on friendliness, community, social action, and consciousness. As our banner reads, a party that values truth, beauty, love, and freedom. (And funky freaks too of course, we love freaks.)

We've decided to pick up some more official residents that help define what we're about, and to grace us with their talents more often that not. For that we are thankful and proud to have them as friends and partners in fun.

Smoove Smoove [more info] Space Cowboy and Gangster of Love brings the funky funky breaks
Miss Audry [more info] Her big heart and incredible resiliency is matched by her soulful house music.
DJ Hoj Hoj [more info] The Persian Elvis, bringing tribal progressive muscle with a soft touch.
Syd Gris [more info] The Dr. is in. It's his party, so he gets to plays whatever he feels like.

Food for Thought returns

For those that have been hanging out with us for a while, you may know I used to write a monthly column for the website of the San Francisco Late Night Coalition called 'Food for Thought'. It was my musings on the scene, the city, and the role of lived spirituality in the modern world.

The last one was April of last year. Some of them are still worth a read in my humble opinion, check it if you have a moment: www.sflnc.com/index/readthis/news/food_for_thought

I wasn't supposed to have taken off a whole year! Damn, how the time goes. I originally stopped cause I was caught up in writing my dissertation. After months, years actually, struggling to get it done, I was finally in focused-action mode and could think of nothing else, so writing anything besides what I had to was not happening. I spent all spring and summer on the research and writing and then kind of just never went back to it. So it is a year later I return to share some thoughts of the moment, but this time here in Syd's Corner....

Read on if curious.
