Your music style in a few words:
funky and chunky breakz, ultra disco house, retro 80's new wave, stoney
trip hop, dark and evil jungle.
Why?
Cuz it's FUN! I can't think of anything else I'd rather do. If I can
get philosophical for a moment, I get to create a space where, for one
night,
all y'all can forget about your shite job or your fucked up room mates
or whatever your tweak is and just take pleasure in the rhythmic movement
of your body.
Obligatory DJ questions: How long have been DJ'ing?
I've been collecting since I was in high school. I started "spinning"
about 10 years ago when drum 'n bass and trip hop first stared coming over
from England.
What got you into the scene?
The Space Cowboys. Before that it was Mike Bee every saturday night at
The Top.
What made you decide to come off the dance floor get behind the decks?
I can't dance. And thought dj'ing would be a great way to be
entertaining without having the audience look at me. And it beats playing bass in a
funk power trio...
Preferred BPM:
I dunno what it is but there's something universal about 133 beats per
minute.
Day job? What is it?
shady.
What keeps you motivated to keep going out there, getting new music, and DJ'ing?
Music keeps evolving, growing, expanding, morphing, mutating. And
there's such a heavy emphasis on the avant garde in electronic music which
keeps it fresh. Oh yeah, and I get to play records in the greatest city on
earth, San Francisco.
Music influences, electronic and otherwise:
Orbital, David Bowie, The Police, Roni Size, Early Metallica, Miles
Davis,
T. Rex, Duran Duran, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Led Zeppelin, The
entire
Fingerlickin' crew, Portishead, did I say Orbital?
Favorite 12" of all time?
"Halcyon+on+on" by Orbital. That started it all for me. A very close
second
is "The Message" w/ "Rappers Delight" on the flip from Sugar Hill
Records.
What DJ's still make you want to go dance?
Charlotte the Baroness--I bow down to her. Greg Tung from Brass Tax
(the brown note.) Freq Nasty. Brad Robinson from the Space Cowboys.
Favorite vice you're willing to share:
Wine, Women, and Breakz. Something 'bout those little pills unreel the
thrills until you kill a million brain cells...
Tell us something most people don't know about you.
I'm actually rather shy and I stutter--yes, it's true.
What are you waiting for?
Flying cars. And a black lab puppy.
Interests outside the scene:
I really dig going to the ballet, my sister's got season tickets so I
go some what frequently. I also make regular visits to the SF/MOMA and
the photo galleries at 49 Geary. Lounging naked on secluded tropical
beaches is something I really get into as well.
Anything else you want us to know?
I produce a magazine called "NewsBreakz." It's the funniest fucking
rag you'll ever read.
